Exploration Missions

This fall our association supported and participated in two exploratory trips to look at biomass and the economic potential for our industry. One trip was to Oregon to observe innovative small scale forest organizations, and the other to Europe to study the biomass heating market. Whitehorse/Southern Lakes FRMP Meetings

There are a number of Forest Resource Management Plan Meetings scheduled in the region.  An FRMP when completed is about 70% of a Land Use Plan in so far as the land use designations provide clear directions where forests can be used for timber extraction.  Forest industry input and involvement is an essential part of the process and our engagement will lead to a plan that provides opportunities for economic development in the planning area.

2014 AGM

The Annual General Meeting was held on April 12, 2014 in Whitehorse.  There was a record turnout, and the association's membership is growing.  Highlights included the election of the Board of Directors, a presentation on Integrated Biomass Inc, and updates from the Forest Management Branch.  There was much input on where we will be focusing our efforts in the coming year, and committees were formed to assist with some of these directions.  Read the AGM minutes for more information:  2014 AGM Minutes

Comments Sent to the Dawson City Land Use Planning Commission

Members from the YWPA have been working with the Dawson City Land Use Planning Commission the last few years to share knowledge and guidance from the perspective of the forest industry. The resulting draft document of the Dawson Forest Management Plan has been released for public review, and the YWPA has sent a letter with additional comments in order to contribute to and enhance the final document.
